Safire seemed in her right mind to be able to walk about across streets roam freely with nothing tying her down except of course the constant pressure of everyone’s feelings weighing down on her shoulders. She was only nine years old and she was feeling things nine year olds shouldn't. A blessing they called it, more like a curse she had to endure for the rest of her life. She didn't even think she had powers until she was five. The first day she felt the flood of emotions seeping into her soul was the same day she realized that she would no longer feel anything on her own. She became so numb inside and quickly isolated herself from everyone and everything but already being the quiet one, there seemed to be no trouble when she shut off the world and sat in the dark alone. Only her art and those who knew what to look for could see what secrets she kept inside. It'd been four years since, and she'd come to learn how to tune everyone else out. The canvas that once shouted out to continue her project waited patiently as she sketched the images that fluttered rapidly in her head. Emotions tied to them were clearly visible, anger, distrust, sadness…all one in the same, three daggers that constantly pierced her heart. She could feel all of the world’s pain but she couldn’t fix it, she didn’t know how. Exhaling loudly, Safire stepped back to look at her creation. Lots of blacks, grays, and reds were used to make up this image. The bits and pieces were now put together into a bigger picture. “Chaos” She whispered. Turning away from the wretched sight she looked at the ground knowing this would not go well with her art instructor. “The art of art…It’s a passion, a feeling, an intuition…It isn’t just a picture on piece of paper or a note played on the piano…If you feel nothing, your art is nothing.” Those words she pieced together without meaning to. She could see the phrases that matched together the words that sounded right. Although her teacher didn’t say it directly, she knew what her teacher was trying to explain to the students at the university. Packing her things back up, Safire looked at the image once again. Darkness shrouded a fate that called for blood. “A fate worse than death itself…” That voice... Waking up entangled in her sheets, Safire grasped for every ounce of breath the room contained. The nightmares were starting again and that feeling kept pulling her down. Beads of sweat dripped down her body as she tried to free herself from the cage her mind put her in. Her body was as cold as ice but the fire that burned inside shook her. Pulling her knees up to her chest she hugged onto them tightly afraid to let go. Safire wanted to call out for someone but her voice, paralyzed by fear didn’t make a sound. An empty canvas sat near the window still blank and untouched. “It’s just a dream…I’m not a demon; I’m not a demon…” She whispered to herself closing her eyes tightly. When the images flash in her head she quickly slid back causing a thud against the backboard of the bed. Hugging her knees even tighter she stared out into the darkness afraid of the shadows that moved. “I’m not a demon; I’m not a demon…” She kept repeating herself as she felt the tears caress her face.

Phoebe woke up shocked when she heard a banging against the wall. She quickly jumped to her feet quietly trying not to wake Cole. She grabbed her robe from a chair and scurried into the hall. She closed her eyes, trying to figure out which bedroom it was coming from. Taking a step forward she lay her hand on Safire's bedroom door. She quietly pushed it open. When she saw her daughter crying, she ran over and wrapped her arms around her. "Safire, What's wrong honey?" she asked stroking the little girls hair.

Safire flinched as her mother wrapped her arms around her. “I’m not a demon…” Her heart raced as she kept whispering the same words to herself. “Go away…” She mumbled between breaths. That voice in her head kept laughing and she felt herself getting weaker. It was taking over again and there was nothing she could do to make it stop. It fed off her fear but how could she not be afraid. The darkness that was within her grew with each passing day. Soon it would take over again and she’d be rendered powerless to the urges and the calling. “Go away…” she whispered again as she closed her eyes trying to banish the pictures inside her head. Although her mother was there holding her and comforting her, she felt nothing, she just felt afraid. As her heart calmed down and her thoughts stopped racing, she wiped what tears were left. “I’m fine mom-” Safire spoke a little louder. “I’ll go back to sleep now.” Waiting for her mother to release her from her hold, Safire could feel the worry her mother was keeping inside but she didn’t try to convince her to stop. It was a mothers job to worry and child’s job to cause worry though Safire didn’t tend to follow that motto or at least she hoped not. It wasn't unusual for her to wake up in the middle of the night with a dream so vivid, but never before had she cried softly to herself because of it. Get a grip. She thought to herself as she shook off the dream. Yes! Get a grip you little witch That voice again, it seemed only she could hear it. Your so weak, let me out! It wasn't a dream this time, the voice shouted at her from inside. "I don't want to be a demon mom" Turning her head away from Phoebe, Safire looked at the wall. She was only a fourth demon but she was so convinced she was going to walk down that path. “I don’t want to be evil, I’m not evil right.” It seemed she was trying to convince herself more than anyone else. She didn't wait for an answer when she already knew her mother was going to say. "Tell dad, I'm sorry." Still looking away she rested her chin on her shoulder and closed her eyes. Sleep would not come along easily. As soon as her mother would leave, Safire was sure she would start painting or doing something to keep her awake. She knew as long as she was awake, nothing could harm her...at least nothing she couldn't deal with.

Phoebe sighed and looked at her daughter. Safire had often refused to talk about her powers. Phoebe had tried to help her control them ever since Safire had been little but the little girl wouldnt open up. "Safire, you dont have to be a demon. It is in your blood though. And I know its hard, but you just have to accept that. You have so much good in you that you can over come the evil. Dont fall into its trap. Dont give up! Your a Halliwell. Halliwell's dont give up! Safire you are very strong! I know you are! You can do this! Now please try to get some sleep. Please!" Phoebe kissed her softly on the head and walked over to the door. She looked back at Safire. "Maybe you should talk to your cousin Holly. You know she is Queen of the Underworld." Phoebe turned and made her way back to the bedroom she shared with Cole. As she climbed into the bed and her head hit the pillow, Phoebe could have sworn she saw Safires eyes flash red.

As soon as she heard her mother hop back into bed, Safire quietly stood up and walked towards the window. The night life always looked so calm and peaceful, inviting all that would embrace its beauty. Moving away from the glass and towards the empty canvas, she sat down for a moment just staring at the blankness. Taking a deep breath, she reached out grabbing a pencil and drew according to the soft waves which gave her light. It didn’t take her long to sketch and paint what her hands were telling her and as she finished, she turned her whole work station around so it could dry alone. Putting on some decent clothes she decided she was going for a walk but would return before the sun rose. Slipping into her running shoes she went as quietly as possible turning the handle of the door and shutting it quietly behind her. Sneaking out the backdoor was a breeze. Once she got outside she felt the cool air rush through her veins. Running the same path she had always gone when she couldn’t sleep, Safire watched as the world seemed to just pass her by. Everything was quiet except for the occasional car passing by or the drops that consistently dripped. There was no stopping her as she ran past the usual turn off she’d take to get back home. trip That voice caused her to come crashing down, her flesh met the hard pavement which scraped her hands and split open her forehead. Blood trickled down over her right eye and down her cheek and as she had put most of her weight on her right arm. Her wrist felt like she had sprained it but did nothing worse. Getting back up on her feet she continued to run along as if nothing happened. Why are you running Safire, I’m right here. Turning to her left as she continued to run she saw a reflection of herself yet it wasn’t her. Red eyes glowed for a moment before turning back to its usual brown, markings on her body, a rouge demon on neither side, she was older and stronger by looks. “What will make you go away?!” Stopping she walked towards the waters edge having run that far. Glancing at herself she wiped away some blood that was covering half of her face. Her reflection glowed fiery red. I’ll never go away you know that so stop running from me. Taking a seat, Safire just looked out taking in what comfort she could get. “I was seven when I let you out don’t you remember. You promised me I you would make all of this go away and I can’t believe I fell for it. You were my best friend, until I had an actual friend. Then you killed her.” I protected you why can’t you see that. The reflection on the water shift into its original form. Safire didn’t know the demons real name or if she was a demon, she just knew this thing couldn’t be trusted. Turning her head away she watched the dust around her create images that played out the same day two years ago. A hand rested on her shoulder as she watched her best friend fall dead and turn to ash. Brushing off the hand that rest on her shoulder Safire stood up swinging her fisted hands towards the woman that just jumped back out of defense. “I hate you!” She shouted at the demon. Running towards the demon Safire set herself up for a high kick to the jaw yet she was telekinetically thrown back into the water. Running out of the water like a crazed lunatic Safire ran straight for the demon again only this time she was ready for the telekinetic throw as she sent it straight back using her empathic abilities. The demon just stood up again wiping the dirt and sand off her pants. “I comfort you in a way your own mother can’t, I know all your secrets, and I know everything about you.” “And yet you know nothing” Safire turned to look directly at the demon. Her eyes flash a deep red as she bared her teeth. Rouge markings were climbing up her neck as she began to turn. Her blood was bubbling and the heat trickled down her body. Still resuming partial human form Safire grabbed for the demon but thinking quick the demon shimmered away. Safire felt as if her skull was splitting in two as she tried to revert back to full human form. It was a close call, if she’d gone all the way she’d have no control again. Running back home she quickly threw off all her wet clothes and tried her best to fix the damage done to her forehead and hands before slipping back quietly into her bed. In the mirror she still saw the rouge markings and the red eyes trying to fight through yet she would keep them at bay for another year. She figured she’d take her mothers advice later that day and go in search of her cousin.

That moring, Phoebe awoke to noise of bluebirds singing. She smiled happily and looked over at Cole, who snored loudly in his sleep. Phoebe scooted out beneath his arm and threw her feet over the bed. Before going to get in the shower for work, she quietly peeked into Safires room. The child was fast asleep. Phoebe could see the back of her head, and didnt want to disturb her.
Half an hour later as she walked back up the stair with a cup of coffee she tip toed into her bedroom and kissed Cole on the lips. As she got into her car and started the engine, she sighed. Please Holly, help Safire!
********** A couple of hours later Holly orbed into the Turner house. She looked around. "I know your in here Shara! Come out Come out Wherever you are!" she whispered. "Dankou will be so happy to kill your sorry ass!" She quietly orbed into Safires room, sensing the demon there. But all she saw was her sleeping cousin. Holly smiled as she saw the sleeping girl, but she frowned when she saw the gash on the child's forehead. Geeze, you figured Aunt Phoebe would have told me if one of her kids got hurt so I could heel them! Holly placed her hand over Safires head, and closed her eyes. Soon, a white light appeared from her hands and swept over the childs body. A few seconds later, The gash was gone and Holly moved her hands back. She smiled to herself. "I havent seen you in ages little one!! Come see me today why dont you?" Holly waved her hand and a note appeared on Safires bed stand. As she moved toward to the door she spotted a peice of artwork lieing on the floor. Holly picked it up carefully. "Oh my god....Safire?" She turned and stared at the little girl. Sighing almost to herself, she lay the artwork down and orbed back home.

Waking up, Safire felt as if all of her energy was drained. Reaching for the gash on her forehead she found no evidence of such a fall. Sitting upright leaning back on her arms she glanced around the room. Someone had been there earlier, her painting was moved. Throwing her covers off she quickly stood up but felt dizzy and had to sit back down. Massaging the sides of her forehead she waited a few seconds before standing up again. Taking a deep breath she walked towards her painting flipping it over so she could see her art work. There wasn’t anything unusual with this piece, the same as all her others. Still she didn’t like the fact that someone looked at her painting without her approval. She didn’t like sharing her secrets or her artwork with just anyone. Her artwork was a key to many things. Turning around she took a quick glance to see if anything else was out of place. A note called out to her on her bed stand. It was the queen of the underworld, her cousin calling her out for a little chat. Her body shuddered for unexplainable reasons as she placed the note back down. Walking to her closet, she picked out a pair of blue jeans and a navy blue zip up jacket hiding a black top. As soon as she stepped into her freshly picked out clothes after a calming cold shower, she slipped into a pair of skate shoes. As she was gathering her things, she combed through her hair rapidly placing it in a ponytail. Draping a black sheet over her painting, she murmured a soft spell that sent a painting to magic school and a few other works for different classes. Taking one last look around her room, Safire threw a vial at her feet and was whisked away to Holly’s house. Knocking on the door she waited patiently outside.

Holly opened the door with Jessica on her hip. The little girl was playing with the chunky beaded necklace around her neck. A brown -shirt was placed nicely with a pair of white pants. Holly grinned. "Safire!! Hey honey! Come on in!" Jessica struggled to get down while Holly led Safire in. She jumped up and down while walking by Safire. "Sufre Sufre!!" she said happily. Holly giggled and motioned for Safire to sit down on the couch. "So I see you got my letter?" Holly asked. She motioned for the play pen as Safire nodded. "Well, I dont think you've been over since Julie and Brian were born!" As Holly went on and on about the twins, Dankou came walking down the stairs in a pair of black jeans and a white shirt. He grinned. "Safire! How are you?" Holly saw how uneasy Safire was around Dankou. I wonder how she feels about Dankou and I being head of the Underworld. I know Aunt Pheebes had mentioned not to long ago that she thought Safire could use my help...Surely she's learned how to control her demon half by now...But its odd. None of Safires brothers or sisters really have the problem she does....Hmm, maybe I can help her realize that her demon side isnt that bad really!
Holly smiled. "Baby maybe you should take the twins and go out for a walk or something..I took Jessica out yesterday!" Dankou nodded and went to pick up his youngest children. He walked back over and kissed Holly on the cheek. Nodding his head out Safire, he walked over to the door and gently layed the twins into a stroller.
A few second later, Holly heard the door shut.. "So, Safire...Tell me...How are you?"

She was happy to see little Jessica running around her all innocent like, she wished she too could go back to those years when she didn’t have the constant struggle trying to balance out being a magical person in a non magical world. Trying to be polite and discreet she managed to pull off a smile as Dankou walked past her. As soon she heard the door shut, she quickly clenched her fist at her side then released as the feelings she had towards him subsided. It was hard enough to be in the same room with her father for a long period of time but with the source and his queen, she began to feel queasy. At least demons on the outside she could just vanquish without question but this was her family, she couldn’t just turn on them. Family… she thought to herself. “My mother thought I should talk to you then you appeared in my room this morning and left me a note. Did you find anything you liked while you were there?” Practically growling, her voice sounded colder than normal. She had just taken a set on the couch uncomfortably but rose suddenly as if she were trying to pick a fight. Turning her head to the side she sat back down sighing to herself. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude, I just-” She mumbled while looking down at the ground as she didn’t dare look up. “I- I think I better go…I have stuff to do, demons to vanquish.” Standing up she turned to walk towards the door. We know your secret. We know what you did Stopping dead in her tracks she quickly turned around and looked directly into Holly’s eyes or as best she could. “What did you say?” Her heart raced as she felt the pounding inside her head. Clenching her fists she looked down concentrating on her breathing while trying to sort through her thoughts. Only real demons can do what you did. “No! I’m not a demon!” She shouted at Holly not caring that Jessica was in the next room. Her pupils were loosing their honey brown color as her eyes began to flash a bloodcurdling red. Suddenly she felt her body running almost full sprint hopping over the couch towards Holly. Funny isn’t it. You’re unique, one fourth evil yet it seems to me you’re all evil. Safire felt the same presence near her as last night, although she wanted to turn and get rid of her, all her anger was focused towards Holly and she couldn’t just re-route it. Something wasn’t letting her. Her fist swung foreword as she made an attempt to attack the queen of the underworld. Her breathing felt labored as her heart felt like it was exploding but she kept going.

Holly through up her hand and Safire blasted to the couch. "Safire, your letting it control you. Stop it!" As Safire's eyes continued to grow more red Holly pulled Jessica to her side. "Jessie I need you to help me say a spell. Alright? Wanna play the spell game?" Jessica nodded smiling. "Alright copy what Mommy says, K? Ashes to ashes, Blood to Blood. Make this demon turn to dust. Leave this witch from here on out, leave this witch when I shout!
After Jessica had copied her mothers words, she giggled. "yeah!! vankwished a demon mommy!" Holly smiled slightly as she saw Safire's eyes turn to their normal color.
As Safire caught her breath, Holly felt a presence in the room. She smiled to herself. "Shara, Shara... Must we play games? Havent you sunk a little low to be controling a Charmed Ones Daughter?" How dare you call me low, Holly? You're the one who has crossed over and married a demon! And look, your Queen of the Underworld, no less! Im sure your family is very dissappointed! I always thought you were the favorite in the family! And those beautiful children of yours!! Im sure you dont want any harm to come to them!!
Holly grinded her teeth together. "Get the hell out of my house..Do you hear me? GET OUT!"
Holly fell to the couch and rubbed her temples.."Safire..Wake up honey...Wake up!" As Safire jolted back to reality Holly looked at her closely.."Safire, I'm not evil...No matter how much you may think it! Yes I am Queen of the Underworld, but I am still a Charmed One. Dankou, is just head of the Underworld! Yes he is the most powerful demon, but he is still good!! We don't make the demons attack anyone, Safire..They do that themselves...And we always try to stop them!! I am in no ways, A Demon!"
She saw Safire look down in disbelief. "I am not!! I swear it to you!! Cut my wrist, I bleed red not blue or green or purple!!"

Her movements felt faster, stronger uncontrollable. A one step away she could’ve made that jump but this burning inside of her halted her to a drop. Her whole body felt this pain she’s never felt before, the demon was in agony but not dead. Her hands trembled as she kept the pain inside. You can’t vanquish the demon unless you vanquish the witch as well, but no one would dare harm you right Safire, my sweet little Safire. She would always remember the day she was taken by Shara, given a gift she didn’t want and sent home with this demon that triggered her dormant powers to be released into her system. “You may bleed red, but you’re still the queen of all things evil no matter how you put it.” Walking over towards Jessica, she knelt down and smiled. Safire could still feel Shara in their presence but didn’t say anything about it because there was honestly nothing she could do. “I don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful, it’s just-” Sighing, Safire looked at Holly then back at Jessica. “Be good” Safire whispered to her as she placed a silver cross that emitted a bright golden light as Safire placed it around her neck. “Maybe it’ll protect you better than it did me.” Smiling, she ruffled her hair a bit before standing up to face her cousin. “Thanks for the talk…” Gathering her things together she watched as Shara shimmered into the room with an energy ball in her hand bouncing up and down. Shara just patted her head and stood in front of her protecting her all motherly like. “You’re pathetic! First you try to kill my child then you say I’m low, and now as the queen of the underworld you’re trying to convince this little one, that you’re not evil. You could’ve fooled me.” Shara sarcastically commented while chuckling to herself. Shaking her head she continued to bounce the energy ball in her hand. Safire just waited behind this demon obeying the telepathic commands she sent to her. Trapped in her own body she watched unable to move her own limbs. “I’m going to teach you a lesson today, Holly.” Shara threw the energy ball at Holly then shimmered out behind Jessica. “Always...protect your children” Shara knelt down and stroked Jessica’s hair while smiling and shimmered with her to the underworld. Safire just stood there looking at Holly with a smirk on her face before she was shimmered to her home where she would wait for her mother and father to return and get rid of the hold the family had over this body.
